September 2014

Brethren,

Myself and your officers would like to welcome all of you back for our Fall season. I trust all of all you enjoyed your Summer! Things have been relatively quiet at the Lodge; we are still diligently working on the needed repairs related to the fire inspection. My plan to have at least a few new windows installed has to be set aside for now. After last year’s painting and carpeting, there was really no money left to do any major work this year, which brings up something that has been suggested. Perhaps we can start a “window” fund. Anyone willing to donate towards the cost of a window will have their name(s) put on them. I think it’s a good idea and I will work to see that started before the end of the year. We have Pirates Day coming up on Saturday, September 6. We can use some help with the sandwiches. Jeff,et al., have put together another Cigar Night. Please come out and support that as well. With that, it’s time to get back to work.Making good men better is what we do; there is another class of candidates in the queue waiting to be initiated. I look forward to them joining our fraternity. God bless you all and see you soon.

Fraternally,

Robert Caffyn, Worshipful Master

June, 2014

Brethren,

As we prepare for the annual summer break I leave you with the words of our Brother William Howard Taft. “Masonry aims at the promotion of morality and higher living by the cultivation of the social side of man, the rousing in him of the instincts of charity and love of his kind. It rests surely on the foundation of the brotherhood of man and the fatherhood of God.” Although our Lodge will be dark, we have many social events planned for June and the summer. Our Craftsman’s Club meets on the first Monday of each month and Breakfast with Hiram continues on the third Saturday of each month. I remind everyone that our last meeting before the summer break is Hawaiian Shirt Night. Please dress in shorts and a Hawaiian shirt and join us for dinner, a brief business meeting and a fun night. Finally, let’s remember that summer is upon us; this is the perfect time to enjoy the weather and spend time with the family.

Fraternally,

Robert Caffyn, Worshipful Master

May, 2014

Brethren,

As Masons, it is our responsibility to pass on the legacy of our craft to futuregenerations. We do this by holding rituals to impress upon the minds of our new brothers the truths and knowledge we hold so dear. I’ve often equated the three degrees to youth, middle age and death, only to be reborn into His light and see the wonders of our world with new eyes. Like a child, we learn new lessons every day and grow to be the men He intended us to be. He gave us all that we need, as well as free will. Free will can sometimes lead us down a path toward failure and destruction. We, as Masons, are taught to keep these imperious urges in check so that we better serve Him and our fellow man. With our summer recess fast approaching, there is still much work to be done. Attendance could be better at our meetings. So, to encourage all of you, we will be having a Hawaiian shirt night on June 9th. You must wear a Hawaiian shirt, shorts, and sandals. Come to feast on a pig, get a lei, and have a great time. Remember, no Hawaiian shirt, no admittance.

Fraternally,

Robert Caffyn, Worshipful Master

PS: I have 3 extra (new) 2 XL shirts if anyone needs one.

April, 2014

By the time you get this, I hope the cold weather has finally left us! First the St. Paddy’s Day dinner was a huge success. I’d like to personally thank all those involved. It shows what fellowship and brotherhood can accomplish. These are the ties that bind us and make the Lodge a pleasant place to be. Progress is being made on several events that will be upcoming in the next few months. A cigar night, a possible comedy night, Chinese auction, and perhaps a Lodge raffle in the fall. It will only be through your concerted efforts that this will be accomplished. We can’t afford to have a recommendation made and no one to see it through to fruition. All of this is being done to help the Lodge and your assistance is required. Remember the oaths you swore to, as we are a sacred band of Brothers. Mariners Lodge will once again be the jewel of the 20th District. I am proud and dedicated to being a member. Let us get back some of the past as we move forward.

Fraternally,

The First of the Old Charges

A Mason is obliged by his tenure to obey the moral law; and if he rightly understands the
art, he will never be a stupid atheist, nor an irreligious libertine. But though in ancient
times Masons were charged in every country to be of the religion of that country or
nation, whatever it was, yet ’tis now thought more expedient only to oblige them to that
religion in which all men agree, leaving their particular opinions to themselves; that is, to
be good men and true, or men of honour and honesty, by whatever denominations or
persuasions they may be distinguished; whereby Masonry becomes the center of union
and the means of conciliating true friendship among persons that must have remained at a
perpetual distance.
